Saving a Gift of Nature

Grand Marais Harbor & Breakwall Restoration Project

Grand Marais has been the site of a beautiful natural harbor for hundreds of years, sheltering ships from harsh Lake Superior storms.

And now...

The Harbor needs YOUR HELP

URGENT UPDATE!!

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service have completed their Environmental Assessment of the Grand Marais Breakwall Project. It is now in the public comment phase.

We are so close, and are now asking for your help again in contacting the USACE with your comments of support for this project. You can do it several ways: 1) send us an email at and we will forward it to the Corps; 2) print out a form letter (follow the link below) and mail it to U.S. Army Engineer District, Detroit; ATTN: CELRE-PL-E (Les E. Weigum); P.O. Box 1027; Detroit, MI 48231-1027; or 3) pen your own comments and send them to the address under #2.

You may read the entire Environmental Assessment by clicking on the link below.

It is time to return this harbor to what it was intended to be - A state and federally designated Harbor of Refuge.

Thank you everyone for your continued support of this project.

Due to some technical difficulties, you may access both the Environmental Assessment report and the form letter at grandmaraismichigan.com. We are working on the problem and hope to have it fixed soon.
